Our practice

Based in Northern California, Wade Design Architects is a nationally recognized award-winning firm focused on private residences, specialty retail concepts, wineries and hospitality projects. Wade Design was founded by principals Ani and Luke Wade in 2007, after working as lead designers and project managers at Backen Gillam Architects and other notable firms in San Francisco.

We practice a collaborative art, which begins by listening intently to our clients' goals and desires. From initial concepts through to construction completion, we strive to transform their aspirations into reality. We believe a fulfilling process for everyone involved ultimately leads to the best possible result and the most rewarding experience.

ANI WADE

PRINCIPAL

Ani grew up in Peru, and spent her formative years in Costa Rica before beginning her architectural training in the United States. After receiving her Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin, she excelled as a designer and project manager for firms in San Francisco, including Taylor Lombardo Architects. In 2004 Ani joined Backen Gillam Architects, with her skills focused on highly crafted residential projects and the design and construction management of the Solage resort for the Auberge Group. In 2007 Ani co-founded Wade Design Architects with her husband and partner Luke Wade.

Ani brings a commitment to clarity and organization to every project, and holds all contributors to a very high standard of excellence. On evenings and weekends she finds an escape by cooking for her family and building her yoga practice – activities which help her maintain a balance between dual roles as a mother and professional.

luke wade

principal

A native Texan, Luke began practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area after receiving his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 2000. Working closely with Howard Backen, he honed his design skills as a project manager with Backen Gillam Architects and oversaw projects ranging from private residences to wineries, retail concepts, restaurants and resorts. In 2007 Luke co-founded Wade Design Architects with his wife and partner Ani Wade.

In addition to projects in Northern California, work has taken Luke across the nation, and to beautiful sites in the wine growing regions of Oregon, Washington and Canada. He has consulted for notable clients Williams-Sonoma Inc. and The Sundance Group. Beyond North America, he has designed projects in Australia, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Panama.

On weekends you can find Luke outdoors with his family, enjoying the trails and beaches of Marin County. His desire to travel and see the world is mostly insatiable, there is always more to learn.

JENNY HOOVER

PROJECT MANAGER

Jenny lived in Southern California and Washington before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Rice University in 2001. After a brief stint with Gensler in Santa Monica, she settled in the San Francisco Bay Area where in 2007, she met Luke and Ani Wade through friends in the Bay Area network of architects. Jenny is inspired by every sort of architecture, from humble or makeshift structures that serve their function with efficiency, to extreme or capricious forms that serve little more purpose than to distort the senses. She enjoys working to find a balance between those two extremes. As an accomplished Architect Jenny has 15 years of architecture and design experience.

Completed Projects: Medlock Ames Tasting Room & Bar, Williams-Sonoma, Residence on Lake Chelan, Laguna de Santa Rosa Residence, and Sonoma Craftsman Addition.

Nick Koelzer

project manager

Nick received his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, not far from his hometown. Growing up in a family heavily influenced by a ‘do-it-yourself’ mentality, Nick was exposed to many hands-on building projects from an early age, including shelves, roof awnings and decks. It was this exposure to carpentry and small-scale building that led him to appreciate the more intimate aspects of design, the ‘personal touch’ that makes each project truly unique. Nick has 5 plus years of architecture and design experience.

Outside of the office, he enjoys playing a variety of sports, practicing guitar, and hanging out with friends.

Romeo Canada

Project manager

Romeo is an emerging young professional with 6 years of experience in architecture and design. He has earned his Bachelor’s Degree and Masters Degree in Architecture from Washington State University where he grew into a self-determined designer. His reliability and handwork keeps him reaching for new insights in anything related to architecture and its professional practice. Romeo’s working experience has been in high-end residential design, light commercial renovations, multi-family development and affordable housing.

As a native to Central Washington and the Pacific Northwest Romeo enjoys spending his free time in the natural environment. His go to location of refuge is Lake Chelan along with any hiking trails.

Azadeh ESkandari

Project Manager

Originally from Iran, Azi received her bachelors in Architecture while still in her homeland, after which she worked as an intern for a year. In 2009 she followed her passion for travel and went to Malaysia, found a job as a design architect, and spend almost 4 years becoming familiar with their culture, lifestyle, and regional architecture. In 2012 she moved to the US to continue her education. She graduated with a Masters of Architecture at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in May 2015 and then moved to the Bay Area to join Wade Design Architects. Inspired by vernacular architecture and a phenomenological approach to design, she brings a unique sense of appreciation for people and context. Azi has 8 years of architecture and design experience.

You can find her sketching, gardening or exploring the picturesque landscape of the Bay Area and its eclectic urban life in her spare time.

Jane Sevila

Designer

Jane grew up in Great Falls, Virginia and spent her formative years under the hoods of her father’s classic car collection and developing an appreciation for working with her hands. Her travels throughout the east coast and Europe inspired her to move to Austin, Texas to pursue a Bachelor in Architecture from the University of Texas. While there, her love of travel and appreciation of architecture grew exponentially and she spent many months abroad studying the way society and architecture shape and change each other over time. Upon graduating in 2019, she moved to San Francisco to work at Wade Design Architects. When not working, Jane can be found listening to live music, hanging out at the beach, or exploring the city.

tamela smith

office manager

Originally from Florida, and with an undergraduate degree in Organizational Behavior, Tamela moved to the Bay Area in 1989 to take an Operations Manager position with Fed Ex. She later received a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Dominican University as well as a Masters Degree in Financial Planning from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Before joining Wade Design Architects in 2015, she spent eight years as a Financial Advisor for a local wealth management firm. Tamela now serves as the Office Manager for Wade Design Architects and ensures a smooth day to day at the Wade Design office. Her combined professional experiences support her responsibilities towards HR, business management, and marketing functions. In her spare time, Tamela teaches Hatha Yoga, creates container gardens, and is an avid Marin County hiker.
